After nearly 2 years since the first draft of the script, I’m delighted to say that my new short film, Debutante, is now in pre-production. Following a global crowdfunding campaign which raised over €15,000 from backers in 22 countries, I look forward to sharing the film with audiences in Ireland and abroad starting this summer.
Debutante is a short, contemporary drama set in the world of Irish Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s a story of an 18-year-old Meg, who experiences, in a rather severe way, the overbearing religious control practiced by the members of this community. At its heart, it’s a film about growing up.
The film’s crew includes DOP Barry Doyle (Rising, I Can’t Sleep), 1st AD Niall Owens (Michael Inside), and Costume Designer Gwen Jeffares (Gridlock, Five Letters to the Stranger Who Will Dissect My Brain).
